Understanding your Hills/NX/Reliance Alarm Keypad

Understanding the Lights on Your Keypad

Your security system is equipped with several lights that provide important information about the system's status. Understanding what each light indicates will help you use the system more effectively and respond appropriately in the event of an alarm.

  1. Armed Light: This light is "on" when the system is armed and "off" when it is disarmed. If there has been an alarm during the previous arm cycle, the light will flash.

  2. Bypass Light: This light is "on" when any zone in the code pad's area is bypassed. If the bypass light is "off," no zones are bypassed.

  3. Chime Light: This light is "on" when the chime feature is "on" and "off" otherwise.

  4. Exit Light: This light is "on" during the exit delay. The light will flash during the last 10 seconds of the exit delay as a warning that the time is running out.

  5. Fire Light: A steady fire light means a fire zone has been faulted. A rapidly flashing fire light means that a fire zone is in a trouble condition.

  6. On Light: This light is "on" when the system is armed and "off" when it is disarmed.

  7. Partial Light: This light is "lit" when the system is armed in partial mode. All non-bypassed zones will be delayed and follow the partial delay time.

  8. Power Light: This light is lit if the primary power is on. If the system detects a low battery condition, the light will flash.

  9. Ready Light: This light is "lit" when the system is ready to arm and "flashes" if ready to force arm. The light is off when the system is not ready to arm due to a faulted zone.

  10. Zone Light: The zone lights are "off" when everything is normal. If a zone light is "lit," the zone has been bypassed. If a zone light is "flashing," the zone is in alarm or has been faulted. If a zone light is flashing rapidly, it means the zone is in a trouble condition, such as a tamper or low battery.

Understanding the Keypad Control Tones

Your security system also has control tones that provide additional information. These include:

  • Beeps for all key presses
  • Continuous tone during the entry delay time
  • Pulses when a day zone is violated while the system is disarmed
  • Pulses when a fire zone has a trouble condition
  • Three beeps for trying to arm with the "Ready" light off, if "Force Arming" has not been selected
  • One-second beep or "ding-dong" sound for the "Chime" feature
  • Beeps during an exit delay, rapidly for the last 10 seconds, and once at the end of the exit delay
  • Pulses when the armed status changes and the AC power is off, any zones are bypassed, a low battery is detected, or a tamper condition is detected
  • Beep to indicate a telephone line cut, if selected
  • Pulses when one or more of the following conditions are detected: zone or box tamper, low battery, AC power fail, or expander trouble

Entering a valid code will silence the code pad sounder if it is pulsing. If a trouble condition exists, please contact your installer.

In conclusion, understanding the lights and control tones on your security system is essential for effectively using and managing the system. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't
